11 white tab each containing Estradiol valerate 2 mg. 10 brown tab each containing Estradiol valerate 2 mg, norgestrel 0.5 mg
Indications/Uses
HRT in climacteric complaints at menopause. Complaints due to hypogonadism after ovariectomy. Prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Primary & secondary amenorrhea. Menstrual cycle irregularities.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 white tab daily starting on the 5th day of cycle for 11 days (1st day menstrual bleeding = 1st day of cycle) followed by 1 brown tab daily for 10 days, then stop for 7 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Pregnancy & lactation. Patients w/ undiagnosed vag bleeding, suspected breast cancer, malignancies influenced by sex hormones, benign or malignant liver tumors, severe liver disease, DVT, pulmonary embolism, hypertriglyceridemia. Suspected adenoma of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ increased risk of thrombosis; fibroids of the womb, endometriosis, liver or gallbladder disease, diabetes, HTN, jaundice in pregnancy, chloasma, varicose veins, otosclerosis, epilepsy, porphyria, chorea minor, asthma, migraine, benign breast disease. SLE. Surgery/hospitalization.
Adverse Reactions
Breast tenderness & enlargement, changes in vag bleeding pattern, GI complaints, skin & SC tissue disorders, headaches, migraine, dizziness, depression, fatigue, changes in body wt & libido, visual disturbances, contact lens intolerance.
Drug Interactions
OC; antiepileptic drugs (hydantoins, barbiturates, primidone, carbamazepine); anti-TB drugs (rifampicin). Alcohol. Antidiabetic drugs.
